Local and Global relations between the number of contacts and density in monodisperse sphere packs

چکیده
The topological structure resulting from the network of contacts between grains (contact network) is studied for large samples of monosized spheres with densities (fraction of volume occupied by the spheres) ranging from 0.59 to 0.64. We retrieve the coordinates of each bead in the pack and we calculate the average coordination number by using three different methods. We show that, in the range of density investigated, the coordination number is larger than 4 and it increases with the packing fraction. At local level we also observe a positive correlation between local packing fraction and number of neighbors. We discover a dependence between the local densities of configurations with few neighbors in contact and the global sample-denities. This might indicate that local configurations with small number of neighbors are able to deform plastically when the sample is compactifying.

Three Dimensional Analysis of Flow Past a Solid-Sphere at Low Reynolds Numbers with the Aid of Body Fitted Coordinates
In this paper, the flow-field of an incompressible viscous flow past a solid-sphere at low Reynolds numbers (up to 270) is investigated numerically. In order to extend the capabilities of the finite volume method, the boundary (body) fitted coordinates (BFC) method is used. Transformation of the partial differential equations to algebraic relations is based on the finite-volume method with coll...

متن کاملUnsteady Free Convection from a Sphere in a Porous Medium with Variable Surface Temperature
In this paper a transient free convection flow around a sphere with variable surface temperature and embedded in a porous medium has been considered. The temperature of the sphere is suddenly raised and subsequently maintained at values that varies with position on surface. The method of asymptotic expansions is applied for small Rayleigh numbers and then a finite-difference scheme is used to s...
متن کاملThe role of Tourism clusters on regional competitiveness ( Case study: Religious tourism cluster of Qom)
As a novel idea for discussion on the role of industrial development on regional development, the term “cluster” became noteworthy since 90’s in order to increase competitiveness. Territorial development researchers believe that formation of regional industrial clusters improves competitiveness and plays a role in promoting competitive advantages and regional development. Hence, because of the ...
متن کاملOn Numerical Investigation of Semi-empirical Relations Representing Local Nusselt Number at Lower Nozzle-target Spacing’s
Examining the cooling rate using impingement of air jet finds a wide application in electronic packaging and micro-scale fluid heat interaction systems, While the prediction of Nusselt profile at low nozzle-target spacing is a big issue. The plot of area average Nusselt number magnitude against the nozzle-target spacing (Z/d) shows a gradual decrement in the profile upto Z/d = 1 and beyond that...
